A friend of mine ask if I could found any information (history and value) on a Colt 38 US Army Model 1894 Serial Number 42xx. I haven't seen the pistol in person but he said it was average shape for the age....Thanks

The 1894 army was a improved version of the 1892 new army and navy models with better cylinder lockup,,the early model 1889 navys was colts first entry into the double action service line and lacked cylinder locks making timing good at best,,colt redesigned there locking system and incorporated the cylinder notches in there cylinders for a more positive lock up..this pistol was the first military handgun to use the new smokless powder and was issued to all us troops by the middle of 1897,,should be marked on bottom of gripframe US ARMY MODEL 1894 with a lanyard ring current book value is between 400 in fair condition to 3500 in excellent condition and marked correct,,with a average price seem in my aera of between 250-700 in average+ condition at gunshows
