Hi,
I tried www.proofhouse.com to find out info via the serial #, but they don't have this model listed. Also, anyone have a good rec on where to appraise it? And, buy a magazine for it and possibly one other part? Any/all help is much appreciated. Thanks.

have you tried gunparts corp for the parts you need ? as for the age ..your serial number should have a letter prefix that breaks down like this ,,70G= 1970-1976..G70=1976-1980..or 70B=1980-1983 when production ceased,,values range from 300 good -650 nib at auction or to a collector..dealers will proably offer between 200-300 for it depending on condition

Hi,

Thanks for the info. An old friend gave it to me years ago and I don't know a thing about it. Forgot I even had it. It's missing the magazine and for some reason there's a coiled spring that's coming out of the circular space below the gun barrel. (I'm being *real* technical, as you can tell ) But, he always said it was worth 1000's and this one website says the same bc it's a fave w/ collectors. Would you rec any auctions? Thx.

yes i can recomend ya to some auction sites but you have to get the parts because it will deter the value without it working ,,soundas like the peices you may need may be the bushing for the barrel#2 on the parts drawing(29.00) and mabey the recoil spring plug#42 (20.00),the mag is listed as #19(35.00)but i think you could order it thru somebody else cheaper if ya look around, you could order the parts you don't have from your phone if you can figure out exactly what you need,,heres a link to there site and the series 70 parts page ,,look at there drawing and see if you can figure whats missing then go from there.. http://www.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp? chrMasterModel=0660z1911%20GOVERNMENT%20SERIES%2070 ,, after you get everything working and beack together then try these auction sites ,,gunbroker.com or auction arms .com..you could list them yourself or find a gundealer in your aera that will list them for you for a percentage of the end sale price ,,i list items for a gunshop locally and we charge 25%,, but do everything including shipping,,pictures ,paperwork ,listing,,ect,,all the customer does is bring in the gun for us to get pictures then he takes it home untill it sells ,,then he brings it in and we handle the rest and he gets a check after the money comes in and we ship...so thats an option for you to think about,,like i said you could do it yourself but you should have a good digital camera for pics and you'll need to set up an account ..then you must tell the bidders that you are a private owner and they must be willing to receive a gun from a private party and will only ship to a ffl dealer for transfer,,they usually ask for a copy of your drivers licence for there records and usually will accept the shipment ..some states don't permit sales of certain types of guns and theres alot of thing you need to know before you get in trouble,,but it's really not as hard as it sounds ,,but thats why the dealers charge a percentage from the sale there are alot of hoops and hurdles you go threw to do online auctions.. if i can help ya any more with listing questions feel free to pm me here ..
