Our home was burglarized and I lost some of my prized possessions including four guns. I had a BJ Miroku 12-gauge over/under shotgun with 2 barrels, 26" skeet-and-skeet, 28" full and modified receiver-engraved in silver with ducks on one side and pheasants on the other; M-1 Garrard 30-06 in excellent condition; Browning 30-06 Safari Grade with a Bausch & Lomb variable 3x9x scope in excellent condition; and Marlin 39A lever-action 22 with scope. I don't know where to start to find values for the insurance company.

The criminals did leave me my 45 Kimber --dropped it in the yard making their escape. My wife was leaving the house the night after the break-in and left me in the den -- she said she'd lock the door on the way out, and I told her to leave it unlocked; just get me my 45.

This has been no fun -- any help would be appreciated.

sign up on gunbroker.com and search for each gun. In the search options, members can look at completed auctions.

Look for guns in similar condition to the guns you had.

Sorry for your loss and I hope they catch the bastids.

thats a shame about your guns,,i'll do the best i can with the info you provided
1,. the Miroku ,,i'm guessing it was a browning made in japan by bc?current book values put this in the 1000-2000 range.
2,,the m1 garand ,,manufacture makes a big difference here springfields wll have a value from 650 up,,h+r will be 700 up,,ihc will be 850 up,wra will be 850 and up all these prices are low end for mixmatched guns,,correct matching guns will demand up to 50% preimiums on the above prices..
3,,the browning safari grade,,for the standard grade rifle alone book values are from 400-900 add another 50-75 for the scope..
4 ,,the marlin 39a,,book values for standard modelswould be in the 150-400 range +scope value ,,these prices are just estimates and without knowing particular models and grades and condition it's very hard to give exact figures,,but hope it gives you a balpark idea of the values

Before you go to alot of trouble are you sure homeowners insurance will cover this loss?
Most don't unless you paid extra premiums for a "declared value rider". Homeowners generally excludes any cash, stamp collections, baseball cards, etc., etc.

It did cover some tools stolen out of my truck (there is a percent of the policy that applies to property off site).

Insurance companies now belong to a data base service that records any reported loss so you can't report the same loss to one insurance company in 2005, change companies and do it again in 2006, etc.,etc.

They also have gone to buying the item claimed instead of cutting a check. They get a massive discount from makers of TV's, and other appliances so no cash crosses your hands. Just a little trivia--check that policy first or call the agent. Thor
