I have had a Colt 45 auto for sometime and could never get a value for it. I have owned it since 1979 - 45 auto Panama Canal Special Edition - 1 of 250. It has pewter handles, gold on one side of the slide of Roosevelt and three other instrumental in the canal and gold on the other side of the slide of the Gatun lock and some scrolls. It is in a oak presentation case, never fired with a letter from colt describing the gun. Anyone heard of it or can give me any direction on it?

hello ,,i remember looking thru american rifleman magazines during the 70's 80's and 90's and seeing these commemorative edition colts ,,they made them for a bunch of different special events ,,kinda like franklin mint plates and collectables ,,they were copys of original guns used during the time frame of what they commemorated,,the upside of this is some climb rapidly and some don't,,i can't find anything on a panama canal edition under the commemoratives around the 1979 year ,,doesn't mean they didn't make it then but means it's not listed in my books ,,looking at other 45acp pistols from your time frame they seem to be around 1000 nib,,some of the ww2 editions go for more but generally i'd put it in the 800-1000 dollar range at auction or to a serious colt commemorative collector,,mabey more and i could be way off here ,,in which case someone please correct me ..
