I think it is a Mossberg model B with a 2 piece bolt made in 1928. I spent some time on Google and couldn't come up with any pics that matched yours, but I did find some info:

Here is an excerpt from a closed auction listing:

"The 22 Bearcat was actually made by Mossberg for Century Arms. Mossberg referred to their version as the model B. It was Mossbergs first bolt action rifle. They were made from 1928-1932. In 1928 it was stamped " Trappers Special" The Mossberg Model B also marked the beginning of Mossbeg firearms without serial numbers. It was orginal designed for F. C. Taylor Fur Co. of St Louis Mo, a mail order house that sold these for $4.85. It then was released to many retailers. It is a basic single shot take-down bolt action rifle."

Here is one from another website:

"The 22 bearcat is actually made by Mossberg. It is Mossbergs model B.It was Mossbergs first bolt action rifle. They were made from 1928-1932.In 1928 it was stamped " Trappers Special" The Mossberg Model B also marked the beginning of Mossbeg firearms without serial numbers. As for value that would depend on its condition. The first rifles were made with a 2 piece bolt. Later they went to a 1 piece bolt. There are a lot of single shot rifle collectors out there. I would estimate around $100.00 but at the last gun show i was at ther was one there for $235.00."

Try googling it and see if you can find any more info or pics that match yours. Good luck!

You're welcome Scott. As for value, I doubt it is worth more than a couple hundred bucks at the most....if you find out differently please let me know.

It's a neat old rifle - I have a similiar old 22 bolt action single shot made by H&R. I love the simplicity of design with these old rifles...there is absolutely nothing to break on them - if we take care of them our grandkids will be able to shoot them and pass them down to their kids too!

Enjoy,

Kerry

If we can keep our Goverment out of our gun cabinets along with others we may be able to pass them down.

Best wishes, thanks again.
