Have US Springfield in Excellent condition has been in family forever. Side plate stamped 1863 trapdoor stamped 1870S/N 23072 on barrel and frame. Manufacture date and value??

hello,,you have a springfield model 1868 trapdoor rifle ,,it's proably 50 cal centerfire,,they used available locks with dates from 1863-1864 dates ,,it was manufactured from 1868-1872 with a total of 51,000 being made and the breachblock can be marked 1869 or 1870 current value would be 1000 good-2000 VG,depending on how the collector see's it..or for insurance purposes,,ammo may be available thru old west scrounger if you'd like to try it out ,,they were a blast to shoot,,i've hav a few carbines thru the years in 45-70 and shot them all,,i never fired a 50 cal version though.. but if in good shape i wouldn't be afraid to try it out,,good item to keep in the family ,,and if it could only talk... who knows where it's been and who it was carried by..
