Thank You for taking my question;

I just recovered my fathers Colt 45 1911A1 with the serial number 1407071, can you tell me its value. I obviously do not want to sell it, but I would like to know what it is worth.

Thank You

Charlie

hello,,your serial number was assigned to a block of numbers assigned to Remington Rand in 1943 and the slide should be marked like this:: Remington Rand Inc.Suracuse,New York ,,on the left side,,the right side should be marked M1911A1 US ARMY,,these are very collectable to 1911 collectors ,,and as a replacement value i'd say to insure it for around 2000,,if you do ever deceide to sell it i would suggest that you start the pistol around 1500 if it's as nice as you say it is .. the value of your pistol depends on the correctness of it and there are alot of parts and peices guns out there these days but original pistols demand preimums ,,so don't let any shady dealers tell you differently..they do command these prices ..in the right enviroment..
