I just visited Taurus' web site and noticed they are coming out with several new models in the 4th quarter. The models that caught my attention are 2' barrel versions. I have looked through google and the net and haven't had much luck finding any discussions or reviews of the .17 HMR as a personal protection round. Personally I'm a big fan of .357 for this purpose but the high velocity and 8 round capacity got my wheels turning. Sure would like to see some other opinions of this round and it's lethality. Pros and cons. specs:

Bob, A 17 HMR bellygun ought to be just the ticket if you are attacked by fewer than nine ground squirrels while in a telephone booth. Wait a minute, do they even have phone booths anymore? Be well. Michael

The bullet is too light, too small, too fragile and the high velocity that seems so intriguing won't be there with the 2' barrel. Blast should be formidable though, and the flash should be enough to scare any attacker, if it doesn't ignite their clothing. The 357 would be a FAR better choice.
