hello ,,stevens started making side by sides in 1887 and these old stevens guns do have some collectors intrest althought not as much as lc smiths or parkers,,Datineg the guns is proably within a couple years of the patent dates +or- ,,there really isn't any books i'm aware of with exact serial numbers for the old stevens or the springfield line because of the amount of trade guns produced for hardware and dept stores,,book values in good condition can be from 200 - 700 in excellent condition,,although i've never seen them reach the 700 fugure.. generally they are concidered a low end utility shotgun and will sell in the 150-250 price range,,but beleive me alot of bunnys came to there demise at the hands of these old "Affordable Doubles "and there are still nice examples floating around out there at a reasonable price..there are alot of different models and and i'm not sure just how they were markedas to model # but for reference purposes i use the Standard Catalog of Firearms which shows over 25000 models with over 7000 pics from a-z of firearms and the stevens section is very good with many models listed of the stevens +springfield line..that may help to put a model# to your shotguns
