that all depends on how it was sporterized ,,if it's been drilled and taped then you will have to plug the screw holes ,,your will always be able to see the holes and most of the time the holes were drilled thru the lettering on the receiver,,once thats taken care of then you have to look at what else was changed to sporterize it ,,most of the time depending how nice the sporter project was,, the sites have been changed to sporter sites,,this means you have to find and replace the sites with the originals ,,not extremly difficult but sometimes the original rear site may cost you between 50-75 bucks,,then theres the wood replacement ,,and springfield stocks don't come cheap,,i've seen them from 50 for a beat up mabey cracked one to many hundreds for decent ones ,,and thats not including the handguards which can go from 20-? depending what was correct for the year then theres the bands proably around 10-20 apeice ,,if the original butplate was replaced with a recoil pad theres anothe 20-50 bucks ,,now if the barrel has been cut theres another 100 bucks minimum for the barrel then having it installed and headspaced proably another 50-100 bucks and the end result if you don't buy good quality correct parts is a rifle thats not correct and it would be tough to recovery what you have spent restoring it and still not have a correct rifle with correct parts,,so unless you only need a stock and handguards,,i'd say just leave it alone,,you could proably find another 03 project gun at one of the online auction sites like gunbrokers .com cheaper than trying to restore one thats been extencivily sporterized ,,but it's your money and if you really want to try it,,anything IS possible ,,have at it!
