It is not too old, since the Model 39-2 was not introduced until 1971. I'll need a serial number to be able to say just when your example shipped from the factory. Unless it was a special run of some sort, the serial number will begin with the letter A.
Unlike the original Model 39, the 39-2 was regularly available with a nickel finish. S&W did not use chromium to plate its production pistols or revolvers.
