A lot of people bad mouth the sks as not being a good rifle..Ill give you my 2cents I love my sks..its cheap to own and shoot its easy to disassemble and clean and its incredibly durable also my 30 round mags work fine..it might not be the most accurate rifle out there buts its accurate enough for self defense or hunting deer..just ajust the sights!! also it has very little recoil to kill your shoulder..comments wanted

I doubt that anyone will disagree with what you are saying. The only problem I know of is the firing pin can get stuck and cause the machine gun effect.

It is a rifle designed to be reliable and hit a man size target out to a couple of hundred yards. Not sure what they are going for now but I bought a 'new' Russian version for $ 90 years ago and later a Chineese modle that takes the AK 47 magazines for about $ 150 several years later. What do the people expect for almost nothing ?

The SKS is a battle rifle, utilitarian, will kill you are 330 yards, and the Vietnamese and Viet Vets have never said a bad word about it.

I couldn't agree more; the SKS is a good battle carbine. Accuracy is only fair, trigger pull abominable, sights mediocre, stock too short, but the easy handling SKS is reliable protection at realistic fighting distances.

Which recommends it to what situation, exactly? When the jack-booted federales kick down your door?

Other than being somewhat pleasant to shoot, that is about all it has in its favor. It is a piece of dreck.

In other words, it's Mini-14 accuracy at a much lower price.

Ted, your question indicates you've got a keen grasp of the obvious - nice

I agree with Wayne! If you get a russian made, matching serials SKS in good shape, you've just bought a nice rifle. Add a fue after market products like a new firing pin, new springs, new gas rod, and possibly a stock and it just gets better. Tapco has many upgrade products available for the SKS at reasonable prices. The upgrades also help to make it legal in most areas.

I agree up to the accuracy comment, i've had an sks for 20 yrs now and only put it away when ruger came out with the 580 series mini-14. with only minor home gunsmithing required it'll shoot MOA with a 4x scope. the SKS is an exeptional battle rifle with almost 65 yrs of service and counting. always goes bang when you pull the trigger even if you've been using it as a boat paddle.. JMHO

I wouldn't own anything but the sks rifle . There are so many accessories available out there also, that make it really fun to outfit.
