I recently acquired an older Savage/Arms Springfield Westfield, Model 188J .22 H.S short, long or LR as Auto. I was wandering if anyone could tell me the age of this rifle, or if it is possible to purchase a parts guide or manual for such a rifle?

I believe the gun was mfg. during the 1950's to 1960's. Try World Gun Parts or Numerich Gun Parts for parts.
There are individuals scattered around the country who appear at gun shows with parts for many of these old rifles.
If you will just look at the workmanship and quality of the materials, the steel, etc., used in these older guns, you can see the quality has greatly diminsihed over the years, with many less quality guns now being made with plastic parts that just don't hold-up like those of yesterday. Shame on the gun makers for following the same strategies of the Detroit car mfg's. Isn't it a shame that the prices didn't go down with the quality though- ha ! Get these old guns and keep them !

The gun & ammo mfg's are "putting-the-screws" to the VERY PEOPLE who provide their existence, YOU & ME ! Talk about dogs "biting the very hand that feeds them". They pulled this stunt when fuel cost skyrocketed to $4.00 & $5.00 per gallon, because of increased delivery charges, etc. It was a "domino effect". But, when fuel went down, prices DID NOT !
Ammo has as much as quadrupled. Most guns are $100 to $200 more than two years ago.
These people are doing the same thing to all of US as the oil companies did to US. They are SCREWING US. I've owned guns, been an avid hunter, and shot all my life, but I'm not buying any of this over-priced stuff. I have enough to last a lifetime. I refuse to be a "victim" of price-gouging tactics of the gun & ammo industry. SHAME ON YOU for taking advantage of the very people that support you and keep you in business ! SHAME ON YOU !!!!

I have a Winchester 22 Automatic with a 20" Barrel in a very good condition. The book says these were made in 1933-1937 but the serial number is 114953 and I have a friend that said this was not made in 1953 as I thought I found out on line. Only shhots 22 Winchester Automatic Shells which I have 3 1/2boxes of Original shells.
