Does anyone know where I can find old Savage barrels? I've tried several web sites but all I get is frustrated. Any info would be great.

Savage 99 take down in .22 high power. Made in 1915. the bbl has been cut off behind the sight. I want to get it back to original condition. Beleve it or not, I found an original scope mount for it in my closet! What a find. The condition is very good, except for the bbl. wood and metel show very little wear, no slap in the bbl fit. It will be a fun shooter when I make ammo for it.

hi shooter,
I've done some searching and also left ?'s on antique boards with no response on a replacement barrel. The link below is for a custom barrel which aren't cheap but the rifle you have is definatley worth the $$ and if you rebarrel you can determine what cartridge or keep the original. personally if the barrel is in good condition i'ld put a scope on it and see how it shoots, you may be surprized. I've become interested in the caliber and if i find any other info i'll send it your way. JMHO

I've ordered the dies and have enough old 30-30 brass to to neck down. I'm going to crown and lap the bbl before I shoot it. Interesting round. A couple of sites state that it was used on lions with good results. I would use it on myself if a lion was after me, it's just a necked down 30-30. I'm sure that back in the day it was an amazing round, but things change. Thanks for the info. Shooter.

I've read them before. I love the one about how much the gun kicked his butt! My gunsmith already knows what to check out and make it work right. For some reason I love odd-ball rounds. I make .244 h&h brass from 8mm mag. .270 weatherby from 7mm mag and 338-06 from 35 whelan. Everybody needs a hobby I guess. I'll let you know what kind of shooter it turns out to be.
