Here we go, I have a 303 Savage ser.# 129082, with 26" round barrel. On the barrel it says Manufactured by Savage Arms Corp. Utica.N.Y.USA July 25,1893 Oct 3 1899, Sept 10, 1907 May 25, 1909 June 1, 1909. It looks like a take down from what I can tell. The fore arm comes off and the barrel under the fore arm says "OFF" with an arrow on the barrel, but doesn't seem to move. The gun is in tough shape and I don't want to force things too much. How can I tell the year it was made and the model number? Any help would be appreciated.

Brett,

According to Doug Murray's book, The Ninty-Nine, your gun was made in 1912.

I believe your rifle is a 1899-A which had a 26" round barrel.

The lever/action on the rifle needs to be open to unscrew the barrel.

Can you post a photo of your rifle?

Model? Metal Condition? Wood condition? caliber? Extra holes? Better yet, a photo!

Thanks for the help. I just recently took my savage to a gun show and they did verify it as a 1912 model A takedown. I appreciate the response!!

Open the action to remove Barrel, there is a square hole in the forearm u can use this to aid in turning the barrel.
