That serial number would make the rifle a 1899, probably made in 1899. 303 ammo is expensive, 40.00 + per box for reloads and no manufactures are making ammo now so factory stuff is 50.00+ per box, so take that into account.
Barrel should be 26" so it may be cut or the seller maybe measuring to the front band of the action, savage measured to the chamber end for length.
Brass butt plate isnt original, should be steel.
If the bore is good and the barrel is cut and the butplate is wrong I would think the scratchless finish is suspect, it is 109 yrs old. Even refinished, it could make a nice shooter in the 300 to 400 range.
