Hello, I'm trying to find out the value on my 1882 - 1883 S & W break-open double action 32 revolver. It is missing the hammer and in my best judgement, I'd say it is in poor condition. Break open still works, black handles are still intact (90%), 25% plating.
Thanks, Tom

hello ,,id say you have a 3rd model double action revolver judging from your dates..a hammer may not be that hard to find and possibly check out gunparts corp online for parts ,,if no luck there..i'll check an old gunsmith i know and see if he may have anything,,finding bthe right hammer without the old one to compare it to may be tough but..i'll still check on it for ya and let ya know if ya can't find one ,,as for value as it is right now i'd have to say your value would be as a parts gun,,some of the old break top smiths are very hard to find parts for ..that said i'd value it at around 40-75 depending on how many useful parts are still in it..a complete example in the condition stated may bring around 100-125 if functional with no major issues,,grips are hard to find in nice shape and your best bet may be to dismantal it and sell it that way,,the cylinder and internals and grips are proably worth more tha the rest of it in the condition you say it's in..

hey tom ,,your very welcome ,,but remember that if ya sell it complete the way it is it still should be done thru a dealer ..some states will definatly come down hard on pistols ,,even just the frames with serial numbers ,,your pistol is pretty old but it's still a pistol..it could be sold on gunbrokers .com or auctionarms .com but make sure you cover your tracks and ask for a licence to ship it to..just some advice and a word to the wise..
