Remington Sportmaster 512 .22 caliber Value. I am looking for information on value, serial number location, if anyone has information concerning this firearm please post or send me a message. I have looked
in the remington area, and have searched on this site but
don't see anything about values or serial number location and any help will be appreciated. The only information I have found in really small letters on the barrel is R C 31. Reading the remington website it states R is the month, C is the year, either 1934 or 1956, but don't know what the 31 stands for, any help?

Thanks,

Awhitetail

look on the left side of the barrel just in front of the reciever really close to the wood. There should be three letters. Go to http://oldguns.net/sn_php/remdates.php this site and put them in and it will tell you.. mine is
KSS this one was made in May of 1947..

I have the same question. Where the heck is the serial number on these. I found a number stamped into the metal when I dropped the stock of it. It was sequential with ones and zeros so I don't think that it either. Like yours mine also has the number 31 after the BA.

The 512 series were made from 1940-1955 and 1962 to 1967.

512A --LONG RIFLES, LONGS, AND SHORTS
512P --peep SIGHT; lONG RIFLES ,LONGS,SHORTS
512SB--RAT shot;smooth bore
512---Model grooved for scope
512X (?)

If you wish to sell a high quaqlity Model 512A, I will make you a very fair-plus offer.

For the last two posters who are trying to sell their guns. This may not be the best forum to post them in and from what I understand is actually frowned upon here.

Try Gunsamerica or Gunbroker, or any one of dozens of firearms centric forums that have for sale sections. Here are juts a few: rimfirecentral, thehighroad, thefiringline, glocktalk, ar15, theoutdoorstrader, backpage, and even craigs list.

Looking for the serial #, if it is ther eit should be on the barrel in front of the stock forearm, usually on the left side between the mag tube and barrel. Some didn't have them though, so your may not have anythng to see.

You need .22 Short, .22 Long, or .22 long Rifle cartridges for the Model 512. .22 Long Rifle will probably be the easiest to find.

Locally, go to your local gun shop or try Walmart, if you have one.

On the internet, try the following suppliers:

The model 512 Remington 22 cal, rifles had no serial number. They were made in a time before serial numbers were required on every long gun, particularly 22-rifles

Serial numbers weren't always required on some firearms, particularly 22 caliber rifles. I havae three vintage 22's without serial numbers and one of them is a Remington model 512 the others are a Marlin and a 1930's vintage Mossberg. As I recall Serial numbers were equired on all guns after JFK was shot in 1963.

Renfrew: Long guns were not required to have a serial numbers prior to the 1968 Gun Control Act, which went into effect January 1, 1969, and many manufacturers did not serialize their economy line of products.

I have a Remington Model 512 Sport Master purchased from Montgomery Wards in 1959-60. It has markings "WD3-DA14-88" it was stolen from my home on October 9, 1984, along with several other firearms. I can't recall where those numbers were stamped. Anybody could unknowingly have it, by now.

Bert: Your rifle was made in September, 1954 (date code DA).

It was returned to the factory for repair signified by the "3" in August, 1957 (date code WD) The other numbers are assembly and inspector codes.
