hello again,,i have a few questions for you on your rifle,,is it marked on the receiver ring 1903-a4?also is the stock full lenght about 3-4 inches from the muzzel?and does it still have the upper handguard and all military metal barrel bands?,,when you say there is something you aim into are you refering to the scope mounts above the bolt or is there a rear sight or peep site installed installed above the bolt handle..is there a front site on the rifle and is there a barrel date near the end of the barrel stamped into the barrel..these are questions that will definatly help to evaluate just what you have ,,very nice gift and if it's still somewhat still original and not drilled for scope mounts or afternarket sites it's still a very desirable collectable version of the ww2 era sniper variation of the springfeild rifle.

I AM NOT SURE WHERE THE RECIEVER RING IS. THE STOCK IS ABOUT 18 INS FROM THE END OF THE BARREL.I DONT THINK IT HAS A HAND GUARD.THERE ARE MARKINGS ON THE BARREL THAT LOOK LIKE RINGS.THERE IS A PEEP SITE INSTALED ABOVE THE BOLT HANDLE.NO FRONT SITE;EXCEPT FOR THE SITE YOU LINE UP WITH THE BACK SITE.THE DATE ON THE FRONT OF THE BARREL 9-43 I SEE NO MARKS FROM ANY KIND OF DRILLING.
THANKS ALOT FOR INPUT

the receiver ring is the part of the rifle where it should be marked Remington with model 1903a3 ,,looking at the rifle where you would put the cartridge in the chamber to load it the receiver ring is above where the chamber is and should be marked ,,it sounds like someone has sporterize your rifle by instaling a peep site on the back of the receiver and cutting the original stock or replaceing it with an aftermarket one,,very common practice.. ,,which greatly reduces the value of your rifle to a collector,,still a very nice gift and still would have some intrest to collectors if not sporterized to badly,,
proably without seeing it and from what you have told me i would estimate the value around 250-400 as a hunting rifle and there are many many of these old military rifles still being used for hunting everyday and are an excellent rifles,,just a shame that it was converted at some time !
