I bought at auction a Remington Model 700 in .223 caliber. Laminated multi-colored stock, BDL 26" barrel. Complete, in 100 % condition, still in the box. I also got a reaaly nice weaver scope new, still in it's box. Is there a way to run the serial nuber to determine what year this is so I can dtermines the guns true value?

remington used a date code on there rifles that involves 2 or 3 letters on on the left side of the barrel where it meets the receiver,,remingtons website i beleive has a section on dateing your rifle useing these codes ,,the month is usually the first letter and basically it breaks down like this ,,you take this word BLACKPOWDERX and the B would be january and the X would be december,,after that you need a book or there site to figure out the year ,,some letters are repeated so you have to check when your rifle model was made then find out when the caliber was used in the perticular rifle and so on then figure when it could have been offered with the features yours has ,,so it's easier to check out remingtons site and use there date search feature ,,but thats how you date a remington.
