Hold on Curt i just had another thought, I remember about 20 years ago i came into possession of a 43 egyptian rolling block rifle, If i recall i didn't get any cartridges or brass with it. and i think i reformed 348 Winchester brass to make loadable cartridges?
Now here's the part where you better sit down. Now i dont really plan on pursuing this any further than the discussion we will have about doing it. It would be more expensive than what it would be worth. But could you reform 220 swift brass into 7.62x39 brass? I know what your thinking no I'm not on drugs.
Although i did have some especially hot chili for dinner. I remember Steve Herrett reformed a 44 magnum to accept a 25gr 17 caliber bullet. He shot ground squirrels with it in a martini falling block rifle on a golf course in Idaho. So i guess im not the only one who comes up with weired ideas.

i really think you proably could,,BUT,,i really think it would be alot of stress on the cases by the time you opened the necks up to accept the 30 cal bullet,,as long as the base dia.is the same and the overall lenght is right the only problem i see is the expander and the stress on the necks,,and i wouldn't think they'd take many reloading before you start to get start to get splits in the necks ,,but thats just my thoughts on the question,,but you know what they say "inquiring minds need to know"..lol..i think a better way to look at 762x39 ammo would be to get into reloading berdan primed cases ,,everybody throws them away and if you could get set up with the initial tools for depriming and could find berdan primers that would be the way to go,,i knew a guy that loaded the berdan primed cases,,and i've shot alot of his reloaded ammo with little problems.. but occasionally i did experience a case split ,,but i really beleive that somebody should refine the prosess and recycle all the throw away cases now being dumped on ranges everywhere..i looked into it about 6 months ago for a 11mm swiss rifle i had.. but couldn't find a source for the primers..but there are many sources for the decapping methods,,i even tried opening up the primer pockets to shotgun primer size but the primers wouldn't hold in the case ,,i thought that if you could use redily available shotgun primers you could eliminate the need for the old berdan primers ,,so ya see i'm always thinking also and sometimes my ideas aren't as far fecthed as they may sound!I like to solve problems with whats on hand and have many times ,,but sometimes they just don't seem feasable or flat out don't work!!lol..
