Recently found a family gun. Don't have much about it just the information listed.

Marlin Model *94 (as on the tang) On the top it says Marlin Firearms Company

On the Barrel: Marlin 25-20M.

Serial #: A2627

Patents:
October 11th 1887, April 2nd 1891, Aug 1st 1893.

It is in a little bit rough shape. Don't know exactly how old, but it was my dad's dad's gun (Died before I was born).

If anyone might know how old this might be, and any estimates, would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

hello..it sounds like it's just what it say it is ,,a marlin model 1894 lever gun and in fair condition would book value at 400 and in good condition value jumps to 600,,as for a date i'd say somewhere around the last patent date marked or the first year the 1894 model was issued ,,marlin dates for these old rifles are kinda sketchy and not complete but with a 4 digit serial number i would have to guess this was a first year rifle 1894,these old marlins do have a marlin collectors intrest and the prices i quoted may be low if a collector see the condition as better than your description..i don't think the prices would be much lower because of the serial number and the model it is unless really poor condition and thats usually not a working or fireing rifle ,,so as long as it operates properly and the bore isn't completly rusted beyond imagination or with broken stocks it should still see these prices at least!
