How accurate is the HK-SL8-1? About how much would one expect to pay for one?

What about the HK Mark 23 SOCOM Civilian version? Accuracy and price?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure of the accuracy of the Mk.23, but I don't remember ever seeing one go for less than 2 grand.

I'd wait to see what happens with the 'assault weapons' ban, before I'd buy an SL-8. I'd prefer something closer to the G-36.

i think the SL8-1 is going for about $1100-$1400. i've seen a few higher and one lower. they are very accurate and the action stays very clean. the main problem is the 10-round limit on the mags. although there are conversion kits to allow you to use AR-15 mags.

10 rounds is not a problem for me. I obviously would not use the SL-8 for self-defense, and at the range, reloading my magazine after 10 rounds is no problem. I certainly would like to see the ban lifted (maybe I could get p99 16-rd mags for less than $100), though.

I am sorry, I must be dense. Why is it obvious that you will not use a so-called 'assault weapon' for defensive purposes? Could you tell that to Congress...

...I'm going to assume that you actually want that answered. To begin with, as I stated, I have a Walther p99 (pistol) that is my defense firearm. Further, the SL-8 is a precision rifle, more or less.

If you can't stomach the price of (or simply can't find) a SOCOM, you may want to take a look at the USP Expert. I picked one up a year ago for $1540 out the door, it comes in a case very similar to the SOCOM case (gray instead of camo) if that sort of thing interests you. The Expert is the only pistol in my collection that has never, ever failed me. Not even a simple failure. Every time I've pulled the trigger it's gone bang. And it's DEAD accurate.

For a defensive pistol I imagine the stock adjustable target sites would be of limited use. They're hard to see even in a brightly lit indoor range. I've been thinking of getting mine 'dehorned' and getting it equipped with night sights.

One last thing, I saw the hi-cap mags (12 rds) at the Las Vegas gun show a couple weekends ago for $125.

A valid assumption; sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I also apologize for the slightly smart-aleck tone of my post
