I'm a police officer and as much as I love my service weapon (Sig P229 .40) I think it is time that I get myself a good backup gun. I've narrowed it down to a P220 .45 two-tone or an HK USP .45 fullsize. At 6'4' I'm a fairly big guy and can get away with carrying larger guns. While on duty most likely I will have to carry this gun in a shoulder holster under my uniform or attached to my vest somehow. Off duty I would carry the backup gun and give my P229 a rest. It is pretty much a tie. I'm indecisive and can't decide which one would be better for me. Any suggestions?

Those are awfully big... I'm a 6+ feet myself and not the narrowest of individuals, but that's a lot of pistol to pack around.

I've done a lot of shooting with the P220, and IMHO it's the all-time leader of the DA .45's. Wonderful for those with sizable hands, and very accurate. It will be significantly lighter with the alloy frame.

Do you not feel comfortable carrying cocked and locked? You selected two DA .45's, and I was curious why you didn't select a SA .45, since they're generally smaller and easier to conceal.
