I have a US Army model 1911 colt 45 serial Number 586744 born around 1919 with original US Army web belt holster both in good condition. This was issued to my foster father who used it from three days after the D. Day landing into the battle of the Bulge. Does anyone know how I can find the Value of this weapon?

your colt 1911 with the history if you can document it as being at a specific battle during ww2 and the vet who used it with the holster and web belt would be worth a minium of 2000 and who knows where it might go at a auction or to a ww2 collector,,possibly over 5000 ,,the important thing is to get as much information documented as you can if you foster father is still living ,,try to get unit info ,,how he came about it ..what battles it may have been in ,,and anything you can possibly document ,,this gives it provanance,,and collectors pay preimiums for weapons with actual history as opposed to just issued guns that who knows who may have owned it and if it even saw serivce during a battle,,sounds like you have a very nice collectors item,, the holster if it's a brown us marked and dated on the back can bring as much as 150 + depending how nice it is ,,the belts are fairly common and go for around 20.00 if dated,,this will only raise in value as the years go on so try and hang onto it because to your family it's not replaceable and part of the owners life!

Thank you bigcurt for you experienced quick reply on my question about dads. 45. Unfortunatly dad passed away about 3 yrs ago. I do know about many of his experiences he as an infantry scout and the fractio he was an ace shot, hunter and later a Maine guide among many other things. I also have the German Lunar he brought back from the war in excellent condition. Having been a lone foster child now with no one to pass it onto I fear later if I do not do something meaningful with it. It may well end on the chopping block so to speak. Actually I have a collection of 12 rifles also which were his for the right informed offer I may be willing to sell. More on this one later.
