I hope you remember the Pistol-packin’ Soccer Mama , so check this out :

Meleanie Hain alleges in a suit filed in a Harrisburg federal court that Lebanon County Sheriff Michael DeLeo violated her Second Amendment right to carry a gun and prosecuted her maliciously when he took away her permit in September after she upset fellow parents by wearing her holstered pistol to her 5-year-old daughter’s soccer game.

Hain was joined in the lawsuit by her husband, Scott, who contends that he has lost his wife’s “companionship, consortium, society and services” as a result of the harm she has suffered.
They are seeking a judgment in excess of $1 million to cover damages that include emotional distress and financial injury for Hain’s lost income and attorney fees.

As Dustin wrote in his post about this story:

Hopefully Sheriff DeLeo will learn a valuable lesson: you don’t maliciously violate people’s natural born but second amendment protected rights & expect to get away with it.

Good luck to Hain and her husband on thier lawsuit.

I believe she has a right to carry the pistol anywhere she pleases. I CCW with permit here in FL. The only thing I might chide her for was ‘open carry’ in this instance. If the jerks can’t see the weapon they can’t be OFFENDED.

She was killed by her estranged husband in October 2009 in a murder suicide.
She had, according to police reports, left her gun in her backpack at the front door rather than carrying at home.

    Thats terrible.

Alright… I might be in the minority on this one around these parts, but 1 million dollars, partly due to lost wages which wouldn’t have been lost if they had not sued, and partly do to hubby not getting dinner or laid because his wife was so upset? That’s just silly. I don’t see the need for a pistol at a soccer game full of five year olds. You can’t even smoke on school grounds in the state I live in, so why should you be able to carry a gun, permit or not. Leave it in the car, simple as that.
  • Gordon Castle responded:
At the risk of repeating myself, carry the damned thing CONCEALED. If you don’t have the permit to do that, then leave it at home.
  • Nancy responded:
I think its terrible she was murdered by her husband, terrible that she felt the need to carry a pistol to a soccer game, but quite frankly, I would rather her wear it than leave it in the car…. How dangerous would that be - leaving a gun unattended?!!!!
  • Gordon responded:
Didn’t I just say, LEAVE IT AT HOME? Secured appropriately, of course.
  • Nancy responded:
Yes Gordon. You did say that. So did I :-)
