A gun in display Is this the new fashion for girls and women? The blogger Ananova has talked with Jim Astle, owner of Jim’s Gun Supply in Baraboo who said:
“Females want to shoot guns, but they want them to look pretty, too,” he said. “Guys could give a rat’s butt what their gun looks like.”
Would the women in the group rather have a pink gun than a regular one? I found this phenomenon interesting in two ways, women causing the gun market to adjust to their unique preferences instead of accepting their “inferiority” in the world of arms. Secondly the phenomenon makes it easier for men too to get guns and pistols in many colors and light designs, now that color and variation in the design is possible the men follow.

I’ve seen some ugly guns in my time but nothing is uglier than the PINK taurus revolvers. Ladies are not made Ladies by the color of their guns. A nice smile and good personality is much better than any pink “go bang”. However buying pink guns is a great way to make sure that they don’t get stolen. LOL.
you really think its ugly? its unique though i don’t think women should separate themselves with a gun in a diffrent color.
I have a 16 year old daughter that refuses to go shooting with me. If I could change her mind by buying her a pink gun I would have done it years ago. As far as your gun pictured I think that it’s beautiful, prettier than a butterfly on a spring morning next to a pond. lol.
jimenez, you should definitely try it out. maybe you can rent such a gun, or even show her some pictures on the internet.
I took all of my kids out shooting when they were between 4 and 5 years old. Just plinking bottles and cans with 22 pistols and rifles and they all loved it. My thinking was to keep them safe with guns around the house they needed to be taught how to use them and what they do, well that part all worked out fine. They never touched one of the guns unless we were out shooting and there weren’t any accidental discharges in the house.
Then came the terrible teens and my daughter fell in love with gymnastics and boys. I’m hoping that some day she will come around to hanging out with daddy in the desert again. Both of my boys do but she is a complicated little lady, my plan it to take her boyfriend shooting maybe she will come around if he has a good time.
Ha! This quote is flat-out false:
“Females want to shoot guns, but they want them to look pretty, too,” he said. “Guys could give a rat’s butt what their gun looks like.”
First, not all women care if their gun is pretty. Second, guys DO care what their guns look like. Look how many guys protest the very idea of pink guns. I’ve seen plenty of "Guns should be black or nickel and nothing else" on gun boards. I’m female and personally don’t really care about the color of my gun (my carry pistol is all black), but it seems to me that the very fact that gun manufacturers are making some pink guns or guns with pink highlights is an indication that they’ve finally realized there’s a large untapped market out there.
I’ve seen guys post pictures of guns they thought were beautiful–ornate engravings or exotic wood grips and such–that I thought were just plain hideous. But it does show that men also like their guns to be pleasing to the eye.
Also, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For some reason, the slightest bit of pink makes some men go into a fetal position. Fine, then. Obviously, you’re not the target market of that gun. Stick with your black guns, your silver guns, your black guns with silver slides and and guns with cocobolo grips that you’re going to cover with that Hogue rubber thing anyway. But don’t try to tell me or anyone else that our guns should be the color YOU like or that some bad guy’s not going to take me seriously holding a gun with pink grips or a pink frame. He’ll take me plenty seriously as soon as he feels hot lead in his vitals. Ger serious, guys.
Wow ChrisP,
Your post is more of a rant, wouldn’t you say? Yikes, I can see all the guys saying something like, it’s that time of the month ;(
Seriuosly, the pink gun marketing gets little girls into our sport, oh and yes, the oober feminine who want to stand out like it as well.. Honestly, men with "lil things" like big trucks and guns, and girls who push their feminality need pink ;)
Here’s a rose for ya baby
