This is a perfect example of the “guns don’t kill people…” argument. Nutbags will find a way to be nutbags, regardless of whether or not guns are easily available to them.

Wrote SpeakDog as a comment to Breda’s post about a man accused of attacking people at the Cleveland Public Library.

A man accused of attacking three people at the Cleveland Public Library was charged Friday with felonious assault.Police said Anthony Bailey was at the library’s main branch on Superior Avenue earlier this week when he hit two patrons and a library employee in the head with a rock.Police said Bailey fled the scene but was caught by officers a short time later.

In the end Breda writes :

Feeling more safe, however, is not necessarily the same as being more safe.

I feel this is a very strong sentence, wouldn’t you agree?

The perfect topic. Do most people feel safe? Probably. Are they safe? Again, probably. What far too many people don’t have is the ability to be safe. Important things like teaching children self reliance, inependence and how to use your wits have become a lost art. My father taught me how to defend myself, make a shelter, make fire, get food. Just knowing simple primitive things like these make you confident. I was never taught how to dial 911 while being attacked. The attacker would have been in the fetel position crying like a baby when the cops arrived. Far too many people rely on others for saftey. When it comes down to it, you only have youself to rely on. Don’t be a victim.
