My son just bought a Browning A5, 28" barrel, in mint condition with serial number 13*** and there's an M above the number. It's all ornately engraved. We want to know what year it was produced, where and it's approximate value. Thanks in advance

we've done more research after posting this and we think it was made in 1956 judging by the proof markings on it. Think my son may have gotten himself a good gun

hello,,the browning a-5 model is a very well made and functioning shotgun and many are still in the feild today ,,your year estimate looks correct and for a value in good condition around 550-600,,and in excellent condition proably around the 1000 mark..

thanks for the quick reply My son will be thrilled! He bought it as a collector not really planning on shooting it. He's not a hunter but loves guns. It has a chip in the finish on the stock, about 1/8", but other than that it's in mint condition. He's heard that not many have survived without a cracked stock so before he'd try to shoot it, he'll do research to make sure he uses the right ammo, etc. Thanks again

hello ,,i've never really been a browning fan or collector but i worked at a gunshop for years and saw quite a few come in the door ..it seems alot of these had problems with cracks in the forarm and it's quite common with them but many people and hunters really like them and there's are alot of poeple who collect them ,,one nice thing about a browning they don't seem to depreicate in value !and if your gonna collect and can afford them there usually a good investment if ya can find them reasonable ..
