I'm really glad that I stumbled onto this site. Had been looking for info on my Golden State 03 30.06 for years. Posted it here and had more information on it than I could ever hoped for. Have been burning powder all my life. Was a designated sniper for my company when I was in 45th Division in 51 and 52. My rifle then was an exact look-a-like of the 03 used in "Saving Private Ryan." My favorite type of shooting is extreme long range. I'm getting to be too old to get out much so I just shoot from my patio. Nothing behind me for miles. Flew in World War 2 air shows and when not flying my bird I loved the tailgunner spot in our Mitchell B-25. Got the nickname of "Tailgunner" from that. Thanks to all. This is really a very good group.

welcome bk,
glad to have another vet on board, you have my greatest respect and admoration for you service. i actually learned alot about the 03 from your postings. my first combat weapon was a ar15a1,,,,really a pos...did really well when it was freshly cleaned but use it to paddle a boat and it may or may not fire...lol. we have very small deer here in NW Florida and i picked up one of the newer mini-14's and really love it. haven't used it as a paddle yet but did drop it in a mudhole and it still went BANG. again, welcome,
Kim

one other thing, did you happen to run into a msg charlie russell while in the 45th. he was special ops.

Can't recall the name. Time has really played hell with my memory about some things but can still recall some things quite vividly that I would just like to erase.
Wish that some of the others here would post things in their past or, with their shooting experiences. Military gun use or just everyday shooting BTW A unit that I was in field tested what I guess is todays M-14s and 15s. They were called T models back then. Didn't like them perferred an old M-1 Garand. It just flatout out shot both of them. Couldn't spray as many rounds but believe to this day that it had much more stopping power.
