Your Model 1894 dates back to 1896! You win the oldest rifle of the day award. The value will be determined principally by it's condition. Great is not real descriptive though. Please read the following post and describe the rifle in detail or best send me some photos. The range in value could be thousands of dollars. Especially if it is a deluxe version and has any other special order items. Let me know hwat the caliber is and is it a takedown version. Pistol grip? Octagon barrel? And is it a Saddle Ring Carbine or Standard Sporting rifle configuration?

The 1894 has an octagon barrel. 30-30 caliber. I have kept it clean since I have had it. It is in working condition without any pitting. I would love to fire it. I still have the canvas holster that still smells like horse. This has been in my family since it was new.

I will try to get some photos. There are not any cracks in the stock.

I'll be looking for the photos. It sounds interesting. Here is a post Which I just finished last night on another 1894. It is a good example of how an owner sees his rifle as good but it was far from it.

From your description of the octagon barrel it is a rifle and not a carbine configuration. You may have a real gem in your hands.

What can you tell me about a Colt 38 special, Texas Ranger, single action?

I cannot find a serial number on this one.

It works great, and has I think a bone grip. It was made in Belgium and My Great grand father used it with the 1894

They probably need to be compressed to website size. You can do this in Microsoft Picture manager in the Edit Pictures tab.

Is wvb8 the same as he guy with the Model 1894 rifle?

Bill,

The name change confused me. And I do not do Colts. You may post it as a stand alone post. One of the other moderators should pick it up.

Any luck with photos? Send me a private message and I'll pass on my email to you and I can load them if you want.

wvb8,

Hey sorry to have lost you. This site has been unbelievably busy with Winchester questions.

Your rifle is quite typical of many old rifles. Winchester rifles will quite often have poorer bluing on the receiver than that on the barrel and magazine. I can see some of the original bluing still on the receiver in the more protected areas, It does look as if the bluing is gone from the fore end cap and thin on the magazine and some of the barrel. But the resolution makes it hard to be real accurate. Some good close up photos without the flash would help.

The wood looks original from what I can tell. I would think that it would be worth $1500 to $2000. Not too bad for an old guy with obvious usage but all original. So many of these are really screwed up by now.

Hope this helps
Merry Christmas

This 1894 has been handed down to me. I think I will take it out and fire it a few times. I am a bit worried about the metal butt.
