your winchester 92 was made in 1905 and was available in 5 different models and grades ,,the first is the "sporting rifle"basically a standard model..and book value is between 1250 good-5000 excellent,,the sceond model is the fancy sporting rifle ,,this model had a pistol grip buttstock and came with checkering on the handguard and buttstock,,worth 4000 good-12000 excellent,,the 3rd was a carbine with a shorter barrel 20" so thats not yours,,4th was a trappers carbine again with a shorter barrel,,and finnaly a musket with a 30 " barrel,,so my guess unless its got the checkered stocks yours is a standard sporting rifle..but it definattly could use a hands on appraisal by a collector who knows the model 92 for an exact value..

Thank you for your reply. I believe mine is the sporting rifle. Would you know any gun collectors in the Orlando, Fl area that might be interested in buying?

hello,,no sorry i'm a bit north from fla up here in pa. my suggestion to you would be to find a reputable gunshop owner and see if he would list your rifle on an online auction site such as gunbroker.com or auctionarms.com..those sites will give good results and bring the highest dollar,,you could try running it in a local newspaper but you have to deceide on a price that way..were as on an auction you could put a reserve on it or start it at a certain price and let it go,,most dealer will do online auctions and handle all the nessasary paperwork and shipping for you for a commision of the sale ,,our shop does it and we charge 20-25% but we handle everything from pics to listing to shipping ,,online auctions are your best bet for the highest values and sometimes depending on the rifle or pistol i've seen some sell beyond the actual book values,,but ask around your aera and find a reputable shop owner that won't try to rip you off on fees and commision and agree to a set fee before you let them list for you..thats your best bet ..you could list it yourself if you have a digital camera and want to signup with one of the sites i mentioned.. but be sure if you do you list make sure you list in your auction that the rifle is from a "private collection" and "you will only ship to a licenced dealer for transfer"..most delers will accept a rifle from a private individual with a copy of your drivers licence accompaning the rifle when shipped,,in your case..it would have to be shipped to either a c+r licence holder or a ffl licence holder,,after the auction is over you would need a box which you can get from a ups store,,there box for golf clubs would proably be ok for a winchester,,then pack it well with newspapers or packing materials so that when you shake it nothing moves around and ship it to the dealer and your done ,,you will have fees involved with the final value price from the auction site and you will have to ship it thru either the post office or thru a shipper ..ups or fed-ex ,,but it's really not that hard to do..just some suggestions for you to think about..if you want the best value for your item,,if you deceide to try it yourself drop me a pm and i'll try to help you with listing pointers to help you to point out important features that will help you sell it.
