New guy,

The rifle dates to sometime between 1943 and 1948.
It is probably worth around $800 but I have no idea what kind of condition it is in. So that is a guess.

Is there any email address in particular you would like me to use? There are probably several billion in use and you didn't give me yours. If you make it back from wherever you are going let me know if this answered your questions.

Since I have your attention. Should I still use this rifle or should I store it. I was thinking of not using it because i slipped and thats how the small scratch got on the forearm stock.

Dwayne,

Look at it this way. The rifle is never going to pay for college for the kids. So why not not take it out and use it. I have several + 100 year old rifles I still hunt with. Now, I do take them to the stand in a lightweight case and am very careful with them. But unless you just can't get past a possible scratch you may be better putting it away. Not nearly as much enjoyment though.

My guess is that your grandfather didn't buy it to keep in a closet. And if by chance he is no longer with us my bet is he will look down and smile that you are out with HIS gun.

Good luck, have fun, be safe.

thanks, I needed to hear that. Yes, both my grandfather and his son - my uncle that passed down the rifle - have passed away. When I think about it your right about the looking down and smiling thing. That fits them both to a tee.

Enjoy the day.
