My father gave me his Marlin Model 1893 for Xmas.

I donĀ“t know anything about guns, but would like to know more about this Marlin Model 1893 rifle.
My grandfather bought it some 80 years ago in Copenhagen for $5 (that equals about $150 today).

There are a lot of engravings on the rifle.
38-55 (caliber?)
201145 (production number?)

Other engravings: See the attached pictures.

What can you tell me about this Marlin?

Has this Marlin any value?

Any answers would be appreciated.

Best regards and Merry Xmas from Denmark

38-55 Ballard made in 1900.

Need to see engravings that would effect the value significantly. Also looks like there's been stock repair/refinish which will lower value if not this is probably a 1,500-1,750 rifle IF there were no factory engraving.
