Need info /value on a potential purchase of a Luger with the following info. Name GESICHER..numbers 56/23...the letter L(in cursive writing)Brown wood grips/no obvious pitting. Overall quality appears good. No other markings I could find except for the number 23 stamped again. This would be my first Luger purchase. Seller wants $1000.

hello the gesicher is proably gesichert and thats the markings on the saftey ..check out the extractor and see if it's marked Geladen and check the barrel lenght,,4" i beleive was standard if it's 6" it may be a rare navy model. .. the 1000 sounds pretty cheap and if it were a rare model why so cheap??unless it's something that a vet brought home and he's not up on luger prices ..i'd be a little cautious! ,,lugers are something that needs a hands on apraisal from a luger collector ..and thats not my specialty..not many lugers these days can be had for 1000 or under but there are some that have been peiced together from a pile of parts so it's a buyer beware and it could go either way,,there are also examples that were rebuilt and markings may have been removed at some time ,,these examples will value around the asking price ..mabey a little more depending on the condition ,,usually the last 2 digits of the serial number will be marked on small parts both external and internally and i do know luger collectors look for matching number guns ..but if i had the chance to find a relitively correct luger at the price quoted i think i'd take a chance on it ..but it's your money and if ya take the chance without knowing if it is or isn't correct then your stuck with it ,,but i'd proably buy it just because it's a luger,,at the price quoted you a flag says it's a run of the mill version but like i said for that kinda money it should be worth the investment,,if your looking for something to turn over for a profit ..that i wouldn't want to say yea or ney,,but worse come to worse you should be able to sell it for at least what you have into it and proably more if it's fairly correct and clean..

No pics of the top but it says DWM. Dealer price to me is $569 after further discussion. Barrel length is 3 1/2" to 3 5/8". It is a 30 caliber. The magazine has the wood part at the bottom.(Original?)The dealer tag states it is a commercial variety.

thats a good price for a luger ,,i'd say pick it up ,,the finish looks a little rough but still for a complete luger i would say go for it ,,the grips are worn but replacements are available and the wooden bottom mag is proably correct ,,it may be numbered ,,the 30 luger ammo is available and it will proably shoot good ,,a comercial dwm luger is 650 poor in the books and DWM made some contract lugers for other countries ,,there were 5500 produced for comercial sales and in fair condition the book say 1000,,good jumps to 2000,,so it's definatly worth the money it was offered to you for ,,in my opinion,,
