hello ,,it sounds like you could have an arsenal conversion of the 1898 ,,in the 1920's ths dpms had a number of 1898 rifles converted to carbines and then set into a 1899 carbine stock,,these don't have the value of the original 22" carbines but they are a ligitimate variation ofthe krag rifles ,,value of it complete would be 250 good -450 vg

,,as for a stock ,,they can be expencive for a correct carbine stock but you could use a rifle stock and shorten it to carbine lenght if you could find a cutdown rifle stock and this ya might just get luckey and find something on ebay that someone doesn't know what they have ,,i've seen alot of stocks that people list as unknown rifle stock,,and sometimes ya get a deal ,,there easy to spot with the cutout for the mag box,,and if you bide your time i'm sure you will find something to work with,,also check on gunbroker.com and searck krag,,no more no less "KRAG",,this might throw up some hits.."springfield sporters" may have some krag parts but that i couldn't say for sure ,,also do a web search for Krag rifle parts and see what ya find that way ,,you may also need a front band if ya don;t have that also to make it complete
