I don't give advice but I will suggest that you take a look at http://www.boydboys.com/ before you go with a BC or Hogue. Just another option for you.

Thanks Ben. I've been to the Boyd site before. In this case I particularly want an economically priced synthetic stock and have a Butler Creek on another rife which has given excellent service. I was impressed by the feel of a Hogue overmolded stock a friend has on a 10/22 and so when I saw they are now available for the '98 Mauser thought I might try one.

You're welcome! The quality of the stocks you're considering are excellent so it boils down to esthetics and which one feels right for you. You can't go wrong with either one.

It all depends on what you use the '98 for. If you are a hunter and use this for taking game (long trips through the field) I would lean towards the BC, as the Hogue has a slight tendance to grab clothing while shouldered for long periods of time, usually leaving a small irritation on your shoulder. BUT, if just for target, or the occational outing afield, the Hogue is a great stock for the price. LOVE THE FEEL! Very comfortable for shooting with a sling, and you foreward hand stays put, even when sweaty!!
