Is this a reasonable deal?

My local dealer is offering me a used Remington 700 ADL synthetic, in .30-06, with a Leupold 4-12x40 Vari-X II scope, for $400. Rifle and scope are in very good condition.

I presently have an A-Bolt II .30-06 that I need a good scope for, and I need an iron-sighted rifle to participate in the CMP. (The 700 has factory iron sights, the A-Bolt doesn't).

My thought is, that if this is a reasonable price for the Remington, that I could mount the Leupold on the A-Bolt, use the Remington for my iron-sighted needs, and be sitting pretty nice for $400. Thoughts?

nice deal, just price that scope alone and then compare.......I hope it is still there when you return...I would have bought it immediately if condition was great

I would expect the rifle and scope sold separately would be about $275

Off the top of my head I'd say the Leupold scope was worth half that, at least. I'd jump on it.

If the gun is in good shape, the price is very good. Ask if you can test fire

Thanks for the responses. It was a bit hard to get info on the Vari-X II since they're out of production. I went back today and bought the rifle, and have already mounted the Leupold happily on my A-Bolt II.

I recognize the lack of features on the ADL, but I think that for my intended purpose it will work fine, and I don't figure I can lose much when I sell it!
