Hello Everyone,
I have to share this with you if I may. I haven't owned a weapon for six years when I had to give up shooting because of a bad neck. I injured it over 40 years ago jumping out of a bad airplane while in the Navy. It was discovered in 1998 that the problem was five dislocated cervical disc's. I had them fixed with a plate in the neck. Three months later I had a stroke which hit the brain stem and affected my left side. This February I lost my Wife of 40 years, 363 days. With so much to do that is now done I decided to take up target shooting again. So I'm rebuilding my 'armory', joined the NRA, and today for the first time fired my new Sig 40 S&W. Tomorrow I'll fire my new Anshulz Competition 22. cal single shot rifle with the movable cheek pad. I hope it allows my stiff neck to use the scope. I've only been able to read all the posts here and wish I were able to shoot and now I think I can. Oh, the end of the month will be busy for me. The 28th is Thanksgiving, 29th my 65th Birthday, and the 30th retirement day. If the excellent moderator lets this through, I thank him and all of you for making this a most interesting and informative Newsgroup.

Hey Dan, first off sorry for your loss, It's nice to see that above all you still have a positive outlook, everybody knows that shooting is a great way to relax, have fun and meet new people, one thing I might suggest is try looking through a red dot scope one day, it gives you a little more range of motion when looking through the scope, it's kinda hard for a one finger typer to explain, just take a look and see what you think, might make it a little more comfortable on the neck.
Safe shooting , Bob M

Don,
Glad to hear your story. While I'm 20 years your Jr., I got back into shooting this year after 25 plus years off. I joined a club and having a great time.
I restarted where I left off, small bore using an Anschutz Super Match and precision air rifle. Now I'm starting bulls eye pistol and It's great. Fun shooting and a very social time also.
I hope you are able to to sucessfully enjoy shooting and make new friends.

Way to go Don!! I grew up in a small West Texas town shooting since the age of 5! My father was the Sheriff and I kept bugging him about shooting his hand gun. It was a Colt Commander in .38 super, unusual now I think about it because in the 50's most lawmen used revolvers. Anyway he thought it would scare the hell out of me and I would quit bugging him. He stood behind me and helped me point it down range. The sound, the fire, the smell of burned gun powder....I was hooked. While in college I fought the urge and put my guns away for several years, after all I was a college graduate not some barbaian. I finally gave into the urges and brought them out of storage. Then I started aquireing new ones, I couldn't help myself. Now I am semi retired with 28 acres out in the country. The first thing we did when we bought this place was to dig a 'trash pit' at the back of the property. Funny how this mound of dirt resembles a backstop. Have fun life is short mike e

Don; I can only guess of your personal and physical pain. However, I find shooting real good therapy for whatever ails me. I try to go religiously every Monday, and have only missed three Mondays in the last couple of years. Good luck in your 'new refound' sport, and many more years of fun to go. If there is anything anyone of us can do for you, please do not hesitate to let us know. You will find most of us are pretty eager to help one of our own. Thanks for sharing with us.
