I just inherited 2 German pistols. I have read a little about them but am curious as to value.

1. A CHROME Walther P.38 AC 44 reasonable good shape with aftermarket grips. Can't find anything about these guns in CHROME.

2. A Mauser 42 P08 Luger with the yr 1939. All parts match except clip and with authentic but very warn holster. Pistol is in average or better shape by my untrained eye.

hello,,the chrome plated p-38 ,,most of the time a vet has brought these home and then had it plated ,,was very common for war trophys ..but doesn't help the value to a collector..there were some chrome plated pistols that might have been done during the war in germany but without some officers name on them it's hard to prove so they sell for the price of a p-38 in poor -fair condition in collectors eyes ,,that would be 300-400..mabey a little more if a collector wants the model and year you have to fill a hole in his collection..

,,,the luger with a 1939 date is proably a s/42 satmped model ,,as i assume you know s/42 is the mauser code and in good conditionit's worth around 800-1000 depending on how the collector would see the condition..

Thanks bigcurt,

When I couldn't find anything in the history sites about any chromed P.38's I figured it might be something done later. All the German stamps and numbers are still visible thru the chrome. Don't know much about guns, but since I got these as an inheritance I have found it interesting reading. Doubt I will sell them, but interesting to know their approx. value. Yes the Luger has a 42 stamped on top. All part numbers match serial number.

thanks
Rik
