i inherited my pop's model 12 serial number is 492335. My brother bent the original barrel some years back climbing a fence pheasent hunting. Seems to be in good working order. Any help?

I should have mentioned that the barrel was replaced shortly after my brother bent it, so no I am not looking for a new barrel. I also found out the serial number are the series in 1927. I guess I wolud like to get an idea how much it is worth, and from other locations on the web as well as here I take away that around $300-600 is it's value. Do you think I should not use steel shot in it? I am going duck /goose hunting and all I can use is steel shot, but I am somewhat concerned about that. Any pointers.
