I have a Winchester pump 22, model 62A serial number 96303. It's been in our family and appears to be in perfect condition; can you give me an approximate value?

Guest,

Sorry that it took so long to get back to you. I was looking over old posts and saw that I had skipped you. Your rifle was manufactured in 1939. The model was discontinued in 1958 after 410,456 were made. The Model was named 62A after serial number 98,000. Though exact dates of changes may vary. All Model 62 guns produced prior to this change had a slide pump forearm that was 5 3/4" long. After that date the slide pump forearm increased to 8" and the number of grooves cut into the wood on the forearm were increased from 10 to 17. Look at your slide and that should let you determine which you have.

A perfect rifle should get near $800. That is what the rifle below is worth.

Good luck

The major difference between a Model 62 (phased-out in 1939) and a Model 62A (phased-in in 1940), is the flat spring was replaced with a coil spring.

A perfect 1939 would probably fetch at least $1500 to $2000, even more with original box and papers. I've seen one priced at around $5000 at a gun store but I did not see anyone buying it for that. Very few mechanical things made in 1939 are still in perfect (new) condition though. A perfect rifle is not distinguishable from a brand new condition, never fired one.
