Dear Guest
The Model 14 K-38 Masterpiece is a fine target revolver manufactured by Smith and Wesson for many years. Previous to 1957, it was called the K-38 Target Masterpiece, and was introduced in 1946. Manufacture ceased in 1982, but the Model 14 was reintroduced in a modified version (14-5) in 1991 and made until 1999.
Your particular firearm was manufactured in 1972. The dash 3 variation was introduced in 1967 with a minor change to the rear sight mounting. Your revolver will have a 3-screw sideplate, as do all Model 14s made after 1961.
I hope this is the kind of history you were looking for.
Regards,
JP

Thank you for your time, I appreciate you answering my question, I have seen these revolvers before, but I never saw one with a 8 inch barrel, are the common? I bought it at a auction for $75, either wich way I know I came out ahead.

The 8-3/8" barrel was added as an option in 1959 and continued to be offered until the end of production in 1982.

Yes you did. Unless the gun is in terrible condition, it is worth quite a bit more than that. If it is in NRA Very Good condition, it is valued at approximately $300. If it is in As-new condition with the original box, the value is $450.
Good for you!
