I have a stevens bolt action 22 short, long or long rifle. i cant find a serial number on it anywhere. it is a tube fed, and the only text on the entire gun is
J. Stevens arms company
chicopee falls mass usa
reg us pat & fgn
it is also marked 22 short-long or long rifle.
I am trying to finnd out when this gun may have been made, thanks for any help
J Stevens Arms Company means 1920 to 1940.
Tube fed bolt in that period means model 86 or 66.
There's a decent photo of a 66 at this site: http://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetail.asp?ahid=1628&aid=33701&lid=9195174
You can see an 86 here: http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=9804022.0
The 66 will have a slightly smaller projection out the back of the bolt. The 86 will have a more pronounced taper in the fore-arm.
Value is $45 to $175 depending, as always, on condition.
it was made in 1920 it has no serial numbers
I also have a stevens/Savage .22 rifle. The best info that I have indicates that the J.Stevens marking means that it was made prior to 1940.In excellent condition, $150 to $200.00.Hope this helps. David
