hello,,your british woodward and sons shotgun has many different variations ,,they made sxs shotguns and over /under shotguns ,,they made boxlock sxs's and sidelock sxs ,,they also made hammer guns and came with ejectors and non ejector guns ,,values for the sxs's range from 1500-30,000 depending on the model and features ,,and the o/u guns range from 20,000-200,000,,ther over and under shotguns are proably the highest dollar shotguns ever made by any british shotgun maker and a hands on apprasial shoud be had for insurance purposes ,,there sxs shotguns also would merit a hands on appraisal for correct value and evaluation before buying or selling ..

Hi i would say that this gun was made at the turn of the centry . i also have a woodward gun with a 4 prefix serial number and i know this was made in 1889. woodwards only made BEST guns. i have never seen an anson and deeley style gun IE (boxlock). you can phone purdeys in london as they hold the orignal james woodward and sons records. they will tell you exactley when it was made and who for. hope this helps
