i wasn't aware that savage made slides ,,what makes you beleive it's a savage slide ,,does it actually say savage or is it marked with an S ,,any pics of the savage markings ? your serial number puts it as built under a colt asigned serial number block..some slides may have S marks on them but i've never seen a savage marked one ???

The slide has a flaming bomb with a S in the middle. Frame # and slide correspond with savage contract in 1917. There is a picture of one in the colt history booklet. This may be one of only a few in existience.

intresting,,i've seen the flaming bomb proof on many us military rifles and i have found refrence of an A.J Savage Munitions co. that made "slides" with the markings you listed,, my refrence books state ..your serial number is in a colt serial number block issued for colt in 1919..so my guess is that the slides were left over and the pistols were assembled from whatever parts were on hand by colt after WW1 ,,prices for examples with the savage slide would proably be in the 1500-2000 range in vg condition,,

,,,what threw me off on this one was that the savage company was not the same as this slide maker,,savage was started by A W Savage not A J Savage so i'm guessing that this AJ company was a sibling company incorperated with the original savage company,,intresting that most refrence books don't list this variation being it's very unusual,, there isn't much info on the actual production numbers of the aj savage slides or the rareity of them specifcally from what i can see,,so the value may be for the slide more than a complete pistol.. pretty cool and i learned something new today!,,

they were made by savage under govt contract when we entered ww 1 to speed up production for colt pistols....a few thousand were made .....many have been arsenal re finished.....this reduces value considerably......collectors arms in houston has two nice ones for sale now with good pictures if you would like to look.
