hello you have a very good colt model 1911 made in 1939 ,,your serial number puts your pistol in a lot made for the NAVY by colt and are quite rare ,,It sounds as though yours may be correct with the markings given ,,the slide should be numbered for the pistol..and may have a H on the left side of the mag release ,,an expert aprasial should be aquired because of the rarity of your pistol by someone knowledgable with 1911 variations ,,values can be as high as 3000-5000 in excellent condition and can be as low as around 1000-1500 in poor condition,,But as with most military and sporting weapons Condition and correctness determine the actual value collectors will pay for a firearm,,
,,if you can go to a bigger gunshow there should be colt collectors there who will determine how correct it is and give you honest values for insurance purposes ,,

hello the serial number you gave put production as a remington rand block number for 1944,,so if it has a colt slide it's been changed ,,it should be remington rand ,,sometimes i've read that late war pistolds may have ben assembled owith available parts or it possibly could have been thru a rebuild and reissued for korea or vietnam or anytime in between,,nickel plateing was common with vets and bringback in the late 40's -50's and i have seen many lugers ,,p-38's and 45S that people plated,,to a collector theres not alot of collectors intrest because unless documented as a presentation pistol it can't be remover and refinished to original unless professionally done ...and thats usually pretty costly ! so i have to esitmate the value in the 500-650 range +or - to a collector ,,
