I have a bolt action 22 rifle hand made by a gunsmith named Floyd Butler in Raceville, New York and the bolt is missing. Does anyone know what I may do for a replacement?

hello,,thats tough to say,,you say it's hand made but i would say the smith used a comercial action of some sort to start the custom build ,,i don't think a gunsmith would have the machinery or heat treat facilities to forge a bolt and receiver from raw steel,,there may be some comercial bolts out there that may work but that may be like finding a needle in a haystack,,your best bet would be to check for local gunshows and take the rifle along and see if any dealers might recognize the action and go from there ,,

Floyd Butler's Grandson, Rick Butler, is also a gunsmith. He is sure to be able to help you. He can be reached at Telescope Furniture Company, his day job. Granville, NY. Hope this helps.

I knew Floyd and his wife Maude, and currently live in Raceville, NY.

You will most likely have to have another one made. The person below who said that it must be a comercial action is clueless. I have been making my own actions for many years and it is not that hard. You may just need to contact a machine shop or a good gunsmith.
