I have a 30-40 Krag #194659. I was reading in the old post the serials were from 118,000 to 135,000. Is this a second generation? worth? Everything is original and it has the shoulder strap. Nothing has been modified.

hello again,,your serial number put your krag into the once a rifle now a carbine feild ,,your serial number is too high for known examples of the 1898 variation,, 5000 were made and the numberes observed were 118,000-134,000,,for a 1899 carbine which was stamped 1899.. 36000 were made and the serial numbers observed were 222,609-362,256,,the earlier krags carbine models serial numbers were under 100,000,,in the 1920 the department of civilian marksmanship had some krags converted to carbines but the barrel lenght was shortened to 24"s and these don't command the prices verified carbines will bring ,,your carbine as is typical with alot of old krag cutdowns was made to look like an original carbine and can sometimes be very original looking ..and hard to spot as a cutdown unless your a krag collector ,,i'm about positive yours isn't an original but if in doubt have a antique arms dealer whose knowledgable with the carbines check it out ,,but i know most collectors go by the serial number list for true carbines because of the higher vallue the carbines will bring,,an original documented carbine will bring 1500-2000+ but a cutdown no matter how good a job is still a cutdown and worth between 300 good -450 vg and these prices are the book prices for the DCM conversions as well.. sorry it just doesn't have the right numbers to be an original carbine,,
