Guest,

Model 61's in excellent condition are worth about $1500 to $2250. Your friend may want more money from you. But they really do have to have good blue throughout and no problems with the wood. That shouldn't be too hard since they are not that old. Just needed to have some decent care along the way. Is it an octagon barrel rifle? Not too much of a premium but they are a bit unique. The photo is of a $2000 .22 Mag specimen. If it ever had holes tapped for a scope or the wood refinished the collecting value goes in the bucket!!

Have fun and good luck.

One other thing. There were 343,976 Model 61's made between 1932 and the early 60's so they are not that rare. I do not have the caliber production numbershandy to see the relative population of the magnum version is.

I've had a 61 wmr for a long time. Having done some research on the subject, the magnum wasn't intro'd until 1961 and ended production in 1963. They were only produced approximately 2 years-maybe a wee bit more. So, I don't think your gun was from 1959--altho I suppose it is possible they made a few earlier than '61 for testing purposes. If they did and the gun is in fact a '59, you've got a rare one indeed...I'd do some more research on it if I were you.

By the way, sweetest shooting .22 I've ever owned.
